Mobo's
origins

The Mobo project is an innovation from the Corporate Social Responsibility team at France Telecom Orange.

For several years now, we have been working on initiatives for the collection of used mobile phones in France and abroad. Mobo is both the logical next step in this effort and a project in its own right in the world of mobile phone recycling. Appalled at the idea of millions of forgotten old mobile phones (100 million in France alone!), we wanted to designed a new means of collection.

an open,
and participative project...

The idea is quite simple: an eco-friendly gesture can also be easy, fun and gratifying. That is what we want Mobo to be, a clever and appealing little character who invites us to donate our electronic friends in order to give them a "new" life for the benefit of others and the environment.

Mobo is a decisively open and participative project. It is managed by small teams of enthusiasts: the designers at BETC and Altima, the engineers at the start up Aenergis and SME, PDCI, the researchers at E-ink and, of course, all the Orange teams who have given us such valuable support.

... and currently
being tested

Together we saw the birth of the very first Mobo in late 2011. Today the project is taking its first steps in the greater Paris area with the help of a number of partners including the City of Paris… to be followed by national and then European roll-outs.

We would invite you to support this innovation by recycling your old mobile phone of course, but also by accepting a Mobo collection box in your organisation, by spreading the word about the project or simply by telling us what you think. Because there are better things to do with these millions of mobiles than leaving them lying in a drawer...
